Thesis:

  • Teachers who inspire their students motivates them to strive for success and be a better version of themselves.

Who is to blame for the problems in education according to Layton? Who does he say is being blamed unreasonably?

Layton suggests that the problems in education are either caused by the teacher, the school board, or a society with no idea what education aims to pursue. However, society cannot blame all teachers for the downfall of the education system. For example, there are teachers who continue to inspire many students by sharing their knowledge, like water, making their students want to come to school. But, unfortunately, society blames even the fantastic teachers who do their jobs correctly and passionately because of the few incompetent teachers who do not care or the conservative school boards who make cuts to education to save money.

Do you agree that the purpose of schools and universities is to enrich the individual’s life by giving him/her the tools of self-improvement and the cultivated mind to use them? Explain your thoughts on this issue.

I agree that the purpose of schools and universities is to enrich the individual's life by giving them the tools of self-improvement. Expanding one's knowledge helps students become wiser in their actions. For example, teaching someone the differences between right and wrong, good and bad, encourages them to do righteous deeds and prevent them from committing wrong actions. Enriching an individual's life by giving them the tools of self-improvement motivates students to do better in whatever they are doing and, most importantly, improve their character.

What is the role of the teacher as far as Layton is concerned? Do you agree with this role?

The role of the teacher is more than just teaching their students math, science, etc. Teachers also inspire their students, spilling knowledge like water and rekindling youth's burnt-out minds. I totally agree with this because a teacher who cares for their student's education and the student themself motivates me to go to school every day. Also, a teacher who continues to inspire others motivates me to strive for success, giving my best effort in school. As a result, they inspire me to share my knowledge with others, light up their minds, and continue to not only learn about math, science or whatever, but also how to be a better version of myself.
