Samuel Beckett introduces the Anti-Hero, a protagonist who lacks conventional heroic qualities and are sometimes a little villainous. They are incredibly flawed, which many people adore because they reflect themselves. For example, Dexter, Batman, and Guy Montag (from Fahrenheit 451) are all anti-heroes. Dexter is a serial killer, but he kills other serial killers. This resonates with the audience because he is serving justice by committing crimes and violating morals (how ironic). Batman also does the same, serving justice by committing crimes, taking action by becoming a masked vigilante, stepping into the forces of evil and doing something about it, which most people would not dare to do. These people are not mighty and grand like Hercules, but they take the step of a hero conquer their fears and challenge the idea that all heroes must follow the same traits as a god.
